Canton

CE Frederick, a man of honor, integrity and dedication, passed away on April 2nd, 2024. He was born January 1st, 1926 in Robbinsville, North Carolina.

He spent his younger years between Robbinsville and Canton. At age 17 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy at the height of World War II and became a gunner in the PBY seaplane. He then obtained his Electric Engineering degree on the GI Bill. His courage and commitment to his country reflected his noble character both in and out of service.

CE embarked on his professional journey with Champion Paper and Fiber Company as a laborer, breaking cement. Through hard work and determination, he entered Champion’s apprentice program and ascended to the esteemed position of Manager of Corporate Expenditures at the CT headquarters by his retirement in 1985. With his roles at Champion he and his family relocated to Fairfield, OH and Pasadena, TX. His job also took him around the globe, where he played a pivotal role in buying paper machines in Finland and building mills in Brazil where he lived for three years.

Beyond his career and military service, CE's true joy came from being with his family, his wife Hazel and their three red headed boys. CE was actively involved in various community organizations including being a member of Canton Central UMC, the Lions Club and a respected Freemason. In his leisure time, he thoroughly enjoyed fishing the beautiful streams and lakes of Western North Carolina. Kind-hearted, generous and loyal, he was respected and loved by all who knew him.

CE was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 70 years, Hazel Miller Frederick; his son, Max Frederick; and his sister, Bobolee Gaddy. He is survived by his two sons: Eric Frederick (Sandy) and Raoul Frederick (Kathy); daughter-in-law Robin Frederick; five grandchildren: Dr. Matthew Frederick (Christy), Rachel Thompson (Austin), Brian Frederick (Amanda), Rebecca Frederick, and Hunter Frederick; as well as eight great-grandchildren: Austin Frederick, Bela Frederick, Max Thompson, Will Thompson, Grey Frederick, Jaxon Marlow, Cora Frederick and Logan Marlow.
