It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the peaceful passing of our cherished father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Bruce James Holder, on May 1, 2026. He departed from this world at the age of 88, surrounded by the warmth and love of his family at Haywood Regional Medical Center after a brief illness.

Born on May 11, 1937, in the close-knit community of Haywood County, Bruce was the son of Ray and Bonnie Warren Holder. He was predeceased by his brothers Charles, Carrol, and Ray Holder, with whom he shared a bond that was as strong as it was cherished. Their camaraderie and shared memories were a testament to the strength of family ties.

Bruce was a devoted husband to his beloved Shelby Sorrells Holder, whom he married on September 30, 1955. Together, they shared 67 wonderful years, filled with memories of love, companionship, and unwavering support. Their marriage served as a beacon of commitment and partnership to all who knew them.

A man of service and dedication, Bruce served his country with honor in the US National Guard and the US Army, rising to the rank of Sergeant. His commitment to his fellow soldiers and his country was a source of pride for our family and a legacy of service that we will always cherish.

In addition to being a loving husband, Bruce was a proud father to his four children: Lisa, Kim, Tami, and Kerry. He was a guiding light in their lives, always ready with advice, a helping hand, or a shoulder to lean on. His legacy is further carried on by his eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren, who brought immense joy and pride to his life. He was their storyteller, mentor, and greatest cheerleader, leaving them with countless cherished memories and life lessons.

Bruce’s life will be celebrated on what would have been his 89th birthday, May 11, 2026, at 2:00 PM, at Oak Grove Baptist Church. It is fitting that we gather in a place of faith and community, which were pillars of his life, to honor his memory and the love he shared with all of us.

His family expresses their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Haywood Regional Medical Center and Four Seasons Hospice for their compassionate care and support during his final days.

As he joins his beloved in their ‘Cabin in Gloryland’ we celebrate a life defined by love, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to family. His legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in his memory to Oak Grove Baptist Church, as a tribute to his lifelong devotion to his faith and community.
