Waynesville, Bonnie Jean Hicks Sutton, 90, passed away on Sunday, May 5, 2019 at Maggie Valley Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.
A native of West Virginia, she was a daughter of the late Charles Henry and Lura Hedrick Hicks. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Taylor F. Sutton, who died in 2003; son, Steven Taylor Sutton; and all of her brothers and sisters. Bonnie retired from American Enka as a Lab Tech and was a member of Lick Creek Baptist Church in Green Sulphur Spring, West Virginia. She loved cooking and gardening, as well as spending time with grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Bonnie especially enjoyed entertaining friends and family at her home; telling stories and recounting events of a time gone by, she was the family historian. Her sense of humor created smiles on everyone’s face. Likewise, she was a sounding board for many, using her years of wisdom to listen and console. Bonnie will be dearly missed.
Bonnie is survived by a daughter, Juanita Hendricks, of Greenville, South Carolina; special niece, Carolyn Hunter, and her husband, Bill; two grandchildren, Britt Stribling, and her husband, Tony, of Campobello, South Carolina and Leah Hendricks, of Greenville, South Carolina; three great-grandchildren, Taylor, Cole and Graham Stribling; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 11, 2019 at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park with Pastor Phillip Wyatt officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home prior to the service.
