Bobby Smith

Waynesville, Bobby Carl Smith, age 59, of the Bethel Community, passed away on Monday, November 03, 2014 at his residence. A native of Gaston County, he was the son of the late Hershel Thomas and Ruth Glenn Barrett Grigg. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Crystal Dawn Smith Young and a sister, Leslie Caron Butler. Bobby was employed with Pearson Roofing as a supervisor. He was known for his dedicated work ethic and was a jack-of-all trades who could create and fix just about anything. He was a talented craftsman who was proudest of his decorative copper and sheet metal fabrication creations. He enjoyed the outdoors especially camping, the sport of NASCAR and was a huge classic rock music fan. You could even find him dancing with loved ones to his favorite classic rock hits. Bobby will be remembered most for having never met a stranger, always caring for others and his family, and his special hugs. Bobby is survived by a son, Jeremy Carl Smith and his fiancée, Krystal Arrington, of Waynesville; special "son" William Todd Franklin of Canton; three sisters, Linda Crane, Diane Parton (Jeffrey Hugh Singleton) of Waynesville and Kimberly Lewis and her husband, Mitchell, of Clyde; grandchildren, Hayley Dawn Smith and Brittany Dawn Young; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 8, 2014 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Philip Wyatt officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
