Billy Carroll Sutton, 92, born on April 14, 1933, in Haywood County, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on September 13, 2025, in Silver Bluff Village. Billy's career as an engineer spanned many years at BASF in Candler, NC. Billy was a proud veteran; he served in the National Guard during the Korean Conflict.
Beyond his professional endeavors, Billy was deeply passionate about genealogy, happily exploring his family history alongside his brother, Bruce. Additionally, he had a love for photography, dedicating over two decades to capturing the talents of the Pisgah High School football team through pictures and videos, showcasing the remarkable skills of young athletes.
Billy was a Master Mason with the Pigeon River Lodge and served as a Deacon at the First Baptist Church of Canton, reflecting his devotion to his community and faith. His contributions and involvement in these organizations demonstrated his strong values and commitment to service.
Billy is survived by his brother, Bruce Sutton (Gladys), his daughter, Pattie Fish (George), and his son, Michael Sutton (Sandra). His legacy continues through his grandchildren: Mandy Roberts (John), Aaron Fish, Lindsey Sutton (R.J.), Elizabeth Caldwell (Adam), and Nicholas Sutton, along with his great-grandchildren, Cole Roberts, Allie Roberts, and Nolan Fish.
Billy is predeceased by his parents, Charles Ennis Sutton and Virginia Dotson Scarboro Sutton, his beloved wife of 67 years, Bennie Joe Smathers Sutton, who passed away in 2018, and his son, Charles Sutton.
Family will hold a private family gathering in honor of Billy’s Life at a later date.
The care of Billy Carroll Sutton has been entrusted by the family to Wells Funeral Home of Canton.
