Billy Crawford

"December 14, 1922 - March 11, 2018"

Sylva, Billy Asbury Crawford, age 95, passed away on Sunday, March 11, 2018 at Hospice Pacifica House in Carlsbad, CA.

A native of Jackson County, North Carolina he was the son of the late Robert and Bertha Crawford. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Vernie Gentry Crawford who died in 2003; daughters, Wilma Hewett and Karen Crawford; two sisters, Julie Crawford and Edith Corbin; and a brother, Carl Robert Crawford. Billy proudly served his country in the U.S. Army Super 6th Division serving in WWII. He served under General Patton and received a campaign medal with 5 bronze service stars representing the 5 campaigns he served in along with a victory medal. After his service career he worked for Unagusta and Lea's Industry. Billy recently moved to Southern California where he spent his last days surrounded by love and experiencing new adventures.

Billy is survived by one sister, Arlene Knight; son-in-law, Tim Hewett; two granddaughters, Christina Bush (and her husband Tom) and Brandolyn Nelson (and her husband Willie); great-granddaughter, Laura McDaniel; great grand-son, Wesley Walters; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 17, 2018 in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home and burial will follow with a graveside service at G.C. Crawford Cemetery in Sylva, North Carolina. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
