Clyde – Billy Edward “Hopper” Cogburn, 77, passed away on Saturday, March 18, 2023, at Haywood Regional Medical Center.
Billy was a native and lifelong resident of Haywood County and a son of the late Edward and Edith Messer Cogburn. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Kathleen Cogburn; second wife, Mary Cogburn; a daughter, Robin Smith; and brother, Jim Cogburn. Billy retired from American Enka Corporation, enjoyed watching sports, the Dallas Cowboys, and Fox News. He loved animals, especially his two best friends, Cody and Coco. Billy loved most of all spending time with his family.
He is survived by a son, Eddie Cogburn (Denise) of Canton; son-in-law, Charles Smith of Supply, North Carolina; six grandchildren, Meagan Pearson (Josh), Marcy Sparks (Lane), Chassidy Pruitt, Coley Duffie (Victoria), Cassie Rogers (Cale), and Heather Price (Brandon); sixteen great-grandchildren; many nieces; and many great friends in the car business.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 23, 2023, at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park with the Reverend Tim Lolley officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday evening at Wells Funeral Home in Canton.
The care of Mr. Cogburn has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Home of Canton.
