Billie Wood

August 25, 1924 — December 13, 2002

Franklin-Billie B. Wood, age 78, of 240 Camelot Estates Road, formerly of Balsam Road, Waynesville, died Friday, December 13, 2002 at the VA Medical Center, Asheville.

He was born in Gastonia and was the son of the late Lloyd H. and Elma Dill Wood. He entered the Army in 1942. He served in Europe under General Patton. He also served during the Korean Conflict. He retired after 20 years of service in 1962. He was the manager of Enmark Station from 1962 and retired in 1986. He enjoyed restoring airplanes, sport cars, woodwork, and Harley Davidson Motorcycles.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Lorean Shepard Wood; one sister, Geneva Boyd, of Hendersonville; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, December 16, 2002 at the Garrett-Hillcrest Mausoleum Chapel. The Reverend Tommy Fouts and Reverend David C. Gentry will officiate. The family will receive friends from 12:00 until 1:00 p.m. Monday, prior to the service, at the Mausoleum Chapel. At other times, the family will be at the home of Gary and Lynn Owen, 405 Thompson Cove Road, Clyde.

The nephews will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society, 90 Stiles Road, Canton, NC 28716.

Wells Funeral Home in Waynesville is in charge of arrangements.
