Bill Payne

1937-2016 Canton – Howard William "Bill" Payne, age 79, passed away on Monday, May 30, 2016. A native of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Francis and Mary Hill Payne. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a son, Howard Edward "Eddie" Payne, who died in 2005. He was self-employed with Howard Payne Masonry for 50 years. Bill enjoyed farming, riding horses, fishing, hunting and coon hunting. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Wanda Johnson Payne; a daughter, Debra Payne Chambers and her husband, Will; and a daughter-in-law, Melissa Welch Payne all of Canton; a sister, Blanche Mathis and a brother, Glen Payne and his wife, Ruth, all of Candler; three grandchildren, Amanda Owens, Whit Winfrey and his wife, Roxann and Carroll Wesley "Wes" Chambers and his wife, Tracy; and two great-grandchildren, Cody Winfrey and Allyson Chambers. The family will receive friends from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. on Friday, June 3, 2016 at Wells Funeral Home of Canton. At the family's request, a private service will be held at a later date.
