Betty Ferguson

Dellwood, Betty Setzer Ferguson, 90, passed away on Thursday, November 10, 2022, at her residence surrounded by her loved ones.

A native of Haywood County, she was a daughter of the late Raymond Lee and Estelle Hyde Setzer Allison.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lee Ferguson, Sr. who died in 1998; twin brother, Bobby Setzer, and brothers, Joel Setzer and Edwin Allison; and a son-in-law, Arthur Richardson.  Betty was a long-term member of Maggie Valley United Methodist Church and formerly of Dellwood Methodist Church where she was active in the choir until they closed the church.  Betty was a secretary for several years and retired from Orange Park High School.   She was a member of Eastern Star 065, President of Enlisted Wives Club in Memphis, Tennessee, Chiefs Wives Club in Whidbey Island, Washington, and Officers Wives Club in Sanford, Florida.  Betty was a member of American Businesswomen’s Association in Haywood County.  She took and later taught cake decorating at Haywood Community College in the 80’s and her passion was making cakes for everyone all the time.  Betty’s greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially her kids, grandkids and great-grandkids.

Betty is survived by two daughters, Cheryl Ann Richardson, and Emily Elizabeth Ferguson, both of Dellwood; son, Robert Lee Ferguson, Jr. (Karleen) of Ellijay, Georgia; brother, Leroy Setzer, of Waynesville; five grandchildren, David Alan Ferguson, Robert Lee Ferguson, III (Meredith), Hope Ferguson Loeb (Seth), Benjamin Luke Ferguson (Ansley) and Stephen Murray Ferguson; four great-grandchildren, and two on the way; many nieces, nephews and friends; and her special friend and Visiting Angel, Susan.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 19, 2022, in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Michael Mozley officiating.  The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home.
