Betty Jean Dunlap, 81, of Asheville, passed away on Wednesday, September 25, 2018. She was born on May 3, 1937 to the late Lewis E. Dunlap, Sr. and Nellie McLean Dunlap. Betty was a graduate of Stephens-Lee High School, class of 1955 and earned her degree from Morgan State University. In her early career, she taught French and later spent the majority of her professional career serving her community as a dedicated caseworker in East Orange, New Jersey. She enjoyed playing the piano and being involved with her church, Elmwood United Presbyterian Church of East Orange.
She is survived by her nieces, Deborah Baker Mills, Donna Dunlap, and Phyllis Dunlap Carr; nephews, Lewis E. Dunlap, III, Ronald Mills, and Tony Case; great nephews and nieces, Dustin Baker, Kristopher Baker, Alex Sloan, Antonio Dunlap, Shamar Dunlap, and Devin Dunlap; four great great nieces and nephews; and sister-in-law, Lele Yvonne Dunlap.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11:30am on Saturday, September 29th at Moore Funeral Home at Forest Lawn. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Candler.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimers Association or Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Carolinas.
