Bernard Bagwell Boone, age 86, of Canton, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on March 31, 2026, at the North Carolina State Veterans Home in Black Mountain. He was surrounded by the loving staff who gave him great care and support during his time there.
A native of Haywood County, Bernard was the son of the late Harry Everett Boone and Lydia Louise Bagwell Boone, whom he loved dearly.
Bernard worked for Dayco for more than 20 years in rubber production. He was a member of First United Methodist Church. He enjoyed sports, socializing, and spending time with friends, especially at Canton’s local restaurant “The Southern Porch”. He had a deep interest in all things Civil War and was known as the life of the party, always making people laugh.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Harry Boone, Bill Boone, Leonard Boone, and John Boone; and his sisters, Dot Dolen, Sara Brown, Mary Lou Bentley, Nancy Powell, and Sue Conard.
He is survived by his brother, Tom Boone, along with numerous nieces and nephews who will miss him dearly.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 4, 2026, at First United Methodist Church at 1:00 pm.
The family has entrusted Wells Funeral Home of Canton with the care of Bernard Bagwell Boone.
