Barbara Ross

Waynesville, Barbara Green Ross, 85, passed away on Monday, February 21, 2022 at home.

A native of Haywood County, she was a daughter of the late Dewey Silas and Myrtle McMahan Green.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Julius P. Ross; and sisters, Gail Green, Norma Dale Green, and Virginia "Ginger" Reid.  Barbara was a dedicated member of Long’s Chapel United Methodist Church, and an active member of the United Methodist Women Local Group Link #2.  She held several offices that included President, Treasurer, and Ways/Means.  In 2016, she was honored for 20 years of service for coordinating and facilitating all kitchen activities. Barbara enjoyed preparing meals for the many groups, conferences, and other community needs.  While serving her church, she also worked part time at Walmart where she retired after 20 years.  She loved to be surrounded by her family and lifelong friends.  Barbara thoroughly enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening, sewing and traveling.  She was an avid reader and liked bird watching.

Barbara is survived by four daughters, Kay Prowler (Chuck) of Crabtree, Cathy Szendrei (Eric) of Maine, Rebecca McFadden (Doug) of Florida, and Sara Jane Galvin (Mark) of Crabtree; two sisters, Mary Jo Sharp and Patricia Caldwell; four grandchildren, Rebecca Pearl Nester (Ricky), Ross Szendrei, Charlie and William McFadden; and a great-grandson, Julius Worth Nester.

Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 27, 2022 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend John Ferree officiating. Burial will follow at Dawn Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
