Anthony Edwards “Tony” Rutz, age 90, of Clyde, passed away on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, at Silver Bluff Village.

Tony was born on August 30, 1935, to the late Anthony Mathew Rutz of Stamford, CT and Kate Edwards Rutz of Mullins, SC. He grew up on the family ranch in in Camagüey, Cuba. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Derry Anderson.

He graduated from Clemson University in 1957, during the time when Clemson was a military school. He studied and loved agriculture. Tony went on to build a long and dedicated career with Chevron Chemical Company, where he worked as an Agricultural Technical Specialist and Advisor from 1964 until his retirement in 1996.

Tony loved being outdoors, spending time in the mountains, and working in his garden. He was an advid photographer of nature and agriculture. In addition, he was a devoted Clemson fan and he loved Clemson football and all Clemson sports. Though he lived in many different locations throughout his life, Clyde was always home to him and his family.

He was a member of Crabtree United Methodist Church and was actively involved in UMC Men's Group, UMC Volunteers in Missions, and the NC Disaster Response Team.

Tony is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Marianna Moon Rutz; his children Edward, David(Krista), and Melinda(Mark); his sister, Helen; brother, Darryl; and four grandchildren Amber, Parker, Conner and Jaedon.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday May 30th, 2026, at Crabtree United Methodist Church at 3:00 p.m.
