Anne Rierson Fowler Ammons, 86, passed away on Friday, March 31, 2023 from complications of a stroke.
Born in Forsyth County and raised in Walnut Cove, she was the daughter of the late Henry Hobson and Wilma Rierson Fowler. Anne received her bachelor’s degree in 1959 from UNC Women’s College. She was a brilliant and selfless lady who shaped the minds of countless children during her 30-year tenure as a kindergarten teacher here in Haywood County. She loved her family, music, books, traveling, UNC basketball and Tuscola High School Football. The stands at C.E. Weatherby Stadium will be a little less lively without her.
She is survived by her husband, of 64 years, Ashel E. Ammons, Jr. (A.E.); one daughter, Anne Elizabeth and husband, Wynn Myers; son, A. Matthew Ammons; grandchildren, Paige Ammons Rice & husband Alan, A. Matthew Ammons, Jr., Christian Ammons & wife, Karly, Lauren Ammons and Ashel Myers; four great-grandchildren, Hunter and Hudson Rice and Knox and Noah Ammons.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Dr. H.J. Fowler, and sister, Irene F. McDermott.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, April 3, 2023 at Long’s Chapel United Methodist church. Visitation will be from 12:00 until service time at the church. Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 5, 2023 at Stokesburg United Methodist Church cemetery in Walnut Cove, NC.

The care of Mrs. Ammons has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville.
