Obituary

Amelia Bumgarner, 78, of Waynesville, left this world on April 19 at Memorial Mission Hospital.

In the last two years, she had battled a hurricane, a flood, the destruction of her home of 50 years and multiple organ failure. She was tenacious, stubborn, unflappable, but tired and in the end, she was at peace.

She was a lifelong resident of Haywood County and graduated from Waynesville Township High Class of 1967. For the first half of her life, she spent 37 years as the administrative assistant to the president of Welco Enterprises. The next half of her life was spent as being Nonna and eventually Great Nonna. Her greatest joy in life, besides shopping, was being with her grandkids and her family.

She is preceded in death by her mother, Doris Edwards Parton, and her brother Jack Glen Lowe.

She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Dexter Lee Bumgarner, Jr, her sisters, Susan Lowe Brown and Daurice Parton Metcalf; her daughter, Leanna Bumgarner; her grandchildren, Reid and Kasey Marsh and her great grandsons, Arlo Calloway and Weston Marsh.

There will be no service or arrangements.

The care of Mrs. Bumgarner has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville
