Candler

Candler – Amanda Evelyn Rathbone Meadows, 78, passed away on Saturday, August 7, 2021 at Mission Memorial Campus.

Evelyn was a native of Haywood County and a daughter of the late Orville William and Carleen Cody Rathbone.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Scott Meadows, Sr., who died in 1999; and five siblings.  Evelyn was a 1962 graduate of Clyde High School and worked for the Buncombe County School System.  She was a member of Oak Hill United Methodist Church and sang in the choir for many years.

She is survived by three sons, John Scott Meadows, Jr. (Dana), of Arden, Orville William “Bill” Meadows, and Gary Dean Meadows (Leslie), all of Candler; one sister, Regina Meadows of Candler; five grandchildren, Jessica, Harrison, Aaron, Audrey, and Haylan; and six great-grandchildren, Cory, Aurea, Jack, Wyatt, Adilene, and Louise.

A graveside service will be held at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, August 11, 2021 at Oak Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery with the Reverend Allen Rash officiating.  The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday evening at Wells Funeral Home in Canton.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 154 Milestone Way, Greenville, SC  29615 or to Buncombe County Schools Foundation, 175 Bingham Road, Asheville, NC  28806.
