Alice Anita Welsh, 89, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 6, 2026, at Grand Strand Hospital in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. She was born on November 26, 1936, in Asheville, North Carolina, to loving parents Ralston and Margaret (Leatherwood) Campbell. She was a kind, caring, and compassionate woman who dedicated her life to the people she loved most—her family.
Alice grew up in Hamilton, Ohio, and later attended Miami University of Ohio. She eventually moved to Phoenix, Arizona, for work, where she met the love of her life, Gerald “Gerry” Benjamin Welsh. Alice and Gerry married and together built a life filled with love and cherished memories. They enjoyed many wonderful years living in Fairfax, Virginia, before eventually making their way to the Carolinas. Gerald preceded her in death in 2016. They were blessed with two sons, Michael and Marc Welsh, who brought great joy and pride to their lives.
Throughout her life, Alice faced many difficult moments and endured tremendous loss, yet she remained a woman of unwavering faith and strength. She found comfort and guidance in her faith and continued to show kindness, love, and compassion to those around her. Even through heartbreak, Alice’s gentle spirit and caring heart never faded.
After retirement, Alice and Gerald enjoyed traveling and finding many ways to serve the Lord. Alice was especially devoted to serving at Wampee Baptist Church, North Myrtle Beach Christian School, and with the local North Myrtle Beach Gideon Camp. Her faith was an important part of her life, and she found great joy in serving others and sharing God’s love.
Alice later moved to Little River, South Carolina, where she spent the remainder of her life. She loved her family deeply and treasured the memories they shared together. She also loved to tell everyone about her fond childhood summers spent at her grandmother’s farm in Waynesville and at Lake Junaluska, memories she carried with her throughout her life.
Alice was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Gerald; and her sons, Michael Welsh, who passed away in 2007, and Marc Welsh, who passed away in 2018. Though their absence was deeply felt, Alice held onto the hope and faith that one day they would be together again. Now, that family has been reunited, and they will be laid to rest together.
Alice will be remembered as a loving mother, devoted wife, faithful servant, and a woman of incredible strength whose faith carried her through life’s greatest challenges. Her memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
May God Bless the memory of Alice Anita Welsh.
