Alexander "Alec" McRae Robb, born on January 2, 1938, in Edinburgh, Scotland, passed away peacefully at his residence on April 9, 2025, at the age of 87. A devoted husband for 64 years, he is survived by his beloved wife, Joan Sills Robb, and a family that includes his son, Alex Robb; five grandsons; one granddaughter; six great-granddaughters; and one great-grandson.
Alec pursued a career as a self-employed plumber, leaving a significant mark in his field. Notably, he served as the resident plumber at Warren Wilson College, where he not only honed his craft but also shared his knowledge and passion with his students, taking them on educational journeys to Scotland and creating lasting memories. He was a proud member of the Plumbers Union Local # 2 in New York. Among his many accomplishments, Alec contributed to the plumbing of the World Trade Center, an achievement that showcased his skill and dedication to his profession.
His passions extended beyond plumbing; he was an avid lover of the ocean and enjoyed fishing. Music was another significant part of his life, as he played harmonica, delighting friends and family with his melodies. He was also a skilled artist and loved to showcase his work through sculpting to painting. Alec also made a lasting impact in his community by introducing soccer to Waynesville and delighting many as Santa Claus in the Waynesville Parade for numerous years. Alec was also 32 Degree Mason with the Waynesville Masonic Lodge 259.
Alec's culinary talents shone as he was a master baker at St. Andrew's Square, preparing dishes that were celebrated from coast to coast. Over a remarkable career, he participated in various festivals, contributing his skills to Scottish Festivals, Folkmoot, and Belle Chere for more than 30 years.
He was preceded in death by his father, Adam Robb; his mother, Margaret Robb; one son, Bill Robb; and two brothers and three sisters.
A memorial service will be held in tribute to Alexander McRae Robb on April 12, 2025, at the First Presbyterian Church of Waynesville, located at 305 N Main St, Waynesville, NC 28786, beginning at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Holly Davis officiating. Following the services the family and friends are welcome to gather at the Fellowship Hall at First Presbyterian Church of Waynesville.
The care of Mr. Robb has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville.
