Canton-Alene Chambers Cope, age 70, of 19 Mingus Hill, died Sunday, October 13, 2002 at Haywood Regional Medical Center.
She was a native of Haywood County and was the daughter of the late Jack and Nellie Pressley Chambers. She was also preceded in death by her husband, George E. Cope, who died in 1980, a daughter, Keitha Rathbone, and two sisters, Ruth Chambers and Shirley Hardin. She was a former employee of Champion International in the finishing room and was the biscuit maker at Hardee's for the last 15 years. She attended East Canton Baptist Church and enjoyed watching the Atlanta Braves, the North Carolina Tarheels, and playing bingo.
She is survived by two daughters, Teresa Burnette and her husband, David, and Patty Rathbone and her husband, Randy, all of Canton; one son, Danny Cope and his wife, Cassandra, of Canton; one sister, Anna Jean Reed of Canton; three brothers, Charles Chambers of Candler, Rick Chambers and Max Chambers of Canton; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 15, 2002, in the Canton chapel of Wells Funeral Homes with the Reverends Millard Grant and Ron Greene. Pallbearers will be Stan Livingston, Doug Hardin, Chris Rathbone, Todd Rathbone, Byron Burnette, Nicholas Ferguson, and an honorary pallbearer Sherrill Rathbone. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., Monday, October 14, 2002 at the funeral home.
