Aileen Cathey

Waynesville, Aileen Fulbright Cathey, 84, passed away on Monday, March 20, 2017 at Haywood Lodge and Retirement. She was preceded in death by her parents, Hardy Talmadge and Polly Hicks Fulbright; her first husband, Burlin Queen; two brothers, James ad Floyd Fulbright; four sisters, Mary Jo Reeves, Ann Mason, Louise Franklin and Nellie Fulbright; and also an infant twin brother and sister, Hilliard and Hilda Fulbright. Aileen retired from Southern Bell Telephone Company where she was a supervisor in the Asheville office for 30 years. Also, she and her first husband owned the Burger Box and the Roller Queen Skating Rink. She was an avid member of Barberville Baptist Church where she worked in the Children's Division for more than fifty years, served on numerous committees and was a member of the church choir. The joy of her life was helping to deliver fruit baskets from the church to the shut-ins at Christmas. She also enjoyed crafts and tole painting. Surviving Aileen is her husband, James W. Cathey; two sisters, who were her caregivers, Carolyn F. McElroy and her husband, Edgar of Clyde and Hazel M. Fulbright of Waynesville. The service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 23, 2017 at Barberville Baptist Church with Reverend Kris Estep and Reverend Jeffrey Moore officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers, will be Danny McElroy, Frank Fulbright, Tim Fulbright, Harrison Rathbone, Bill Jamison, Adam Page and Charles Wood. Honorary pallbearers will be Gene Sizemore, Gary McAbee, Jay Hinson, Harold Ledbetter, Oscar McCarter, Gary Haney and Billy Bruce Sherrill. The family will receive friends from 12:00 Noon until service time at the church. The family would like to express a special "Thank You" to Aaron Crawford and all the staff at Haywood Lodge and Retirement for the excellent care given to Aileen while she was there. Memorials may be made to the Christmas Fruit Basket Fund of Barberville Baptist Church, 1441 Russ Avenue, Waynesville, NC 28786.
