Agnes Clontz Henson, 89, passed away peacefully the morning of April 24, 2025, surrounded by family. Agnes was born on July 17, 1935, in Haywood County, North Carolina to the late Haskue and Ada Mae Fish Clontz. She was one of eight beloved siblings. She was preceded in death by her five brothers: Roy, Ellis, Bud, Russell, and Albert Clontz. Agnes is survived by her two sisters Dorothy Worley and Evelyn Underwood.
Agnes was preceded in death by her beloved late husband, Bob Henson, whom she shared a prosperous and fulfilling life with. She happily resided in Henson Cove for over 75 years. She was known for her warm spirit and willingness to lend a helping hand to anyone who required assistance, embodying the true essence of compassion. Agnes found joy in the simple pleasures whether it was cooking delicious meals for her family or tending to her beloved garden filled with blooming flowers. Her passion for gardening was not just a hobby, but a reflection of her nurturing personality. She poured love into everything she did, creating lasting memories for her family and friends.
Agnes is survived by her loving children: Bobby Henson (Ann), Sandra Yarborough (Len), Kenneth Henson (Jan), and Robin Henson. Her role as a mother was one she embraced with unwavering dedication and self-sacrificing devotion. In addition, Agnes was a proud and beloved grandmother to nine grandchildren: Christopher and Tyson Henson, Cathy Clampitt (Les) and Jonathan Yarborough, Lucinda Henson, Ashley Henson Smathers (Zeb), and Jade Henson, Jason, Amy, and Angela Steinel.
Agnes's legacy extended to great-grandchildren; Haley Lopez, Austin, Joshua, and Caleb Clampitt, Rome Henson, Stone Smathers, Mason Steinel, Christopher, Savannah, Abigail, Allison, and George Steinel whose lives have been enriched by her love, wisdom, and gentle spirit.
Agnes was a lifelong, devoted member of Center Pigeon Baptist Church; her steadfast love, integrity, and servitude were a testament to her unwavering faith and devotion in our Lord Jesus Christ.
Agnes will forever be remembered by her strength and selfless devotion to family, her altruistic nature, humility and kindness. Agnes will be dearly missed, yet her memory, wisdom, and values will live on in the hearts of all who loved her.
A funeral service will be held in tribute to Agnes on Sunday, April 27, 2025, at Center Pigeon Baptist Church, located at 224 Center Pigeon Rd, Canton, NC 28716, beginning at 3:00 p.m. with Reverend Scott Poole and Reverend Alan Blanton officiating. A visitation will be held prior to the service from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm. Pallbearers will include Jason Steinel, Mason Steinel, Austin Clampitt, Joshua Clampitt, Caleb Clampitt, Zeb Smathers, Rome Henson. Honorary Pallbearer includes Stone Henson Smathers.
