Annie Smathers

Canton - Annie Mode Smathers, 98, passed away on Monday, January 16, 2023 at Silver Bluff Nursing Home.

Annie was a native of Cleveland County, North Carolina but had resided in Haywood County for a number of years.  She was the last of nine children to pass and was a daughter of the late Samuel James and Jennie Ada Haynes Mode.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Carroll M. Smathers; daughter-in-law, Linda Smathers; and son-in-law, Roger D. Boyd.

She is survived by two daughters, Wanda Eckenrod and Brenda Boyd, both of Canton; two sons, Phillip and Melvin Smathers, both of Canton; six grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren.

A private graveside service will be held at a later date.

The care of Mrs. Smathers has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Home of Canton.
