Canton – Doyle James King, 78, passed away on Friday, November 29, 2019 at his home surrounded by his family.
Doyle was a native and lifelong resident of Haywood County and was the son of the late Kelly Jefferson and Euphia Robinson King. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Doug King. Doyle was a 1960 graduate of Canton High School, a former employee of NCI where he retired after 30 years of service, and subsequently an employee of Champion International with 10 years of service. He was a United States Navy veteran where he served for six years. Doyle was an avid fisherman and cherished his time at Lake Chatuge. He thought the world of his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Wanda Elliott King; one daughter, Rhonda Messer (Kevin) of Canton; one son, Mark King (Stacy) of Queens, New York; three sisters, Keitha Odom, Kathy King, and Karen Burgess (Phil); two brothers, Don and David King; three granddaughters, Emily Jenkins (Aaron), Sarah Stepp (Josh) and Vivian King; two great-grandchildren, Anna Grace Jenkins and Cooper Daniel Stepp; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 1, 2019 at Rocky Face Baptist Church with the Reverend Donnie Henson officiating. Burial will follow at Bon-A-Venture Cemetery, Newfound Road. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:45 p.m. prior to the service at the church and at other times at the home of Doyle’s daughter and son-in-law, Rhonda and Kevin Messer, 1209 Scruggs Circle, Canton, NC 28716.
