William Veal

Lake Junaluska, NC, William G. "Bill" Veal died after a short illness on Wednesday November 4, 2009. Born on June 1, 1924 in Roopville, Georgia to Rosalie and Fred Veal, he was raised in Jacksonville, Florida. In 1949, Bill graduated from the University of Florida and had a distinguished career as a CPA. After relocating to South Florida and then to Tallahassee, Florida, Bill retired from his position of Florida's Assistant Auditor General in 1986, after 36 years of dedicated service to the State of Florida. Bill was a devout Christian, loving husband and father, and will be remembered as a faith-filled, genteel man. Throughout Bill's life, he was active in the United Methodist Church, teaching classes and serving in volunteer administrative positions. Bill was also an honored Kiwanian and a devoted volunteer in schools and communities where he lived. Predeceased by his parents and brother Fred Veal, Jr., Bill is survived by his wife of 54 years, Betty Sue, of Lake Junaluska; daughters Peggy Taylor of Atlanta, GA and Pam Warner of Tallahassee, FL. Bill is also survived by his grandchildren Natalie Taylor of Lake Junaluska and Josh Taylor of Atlanta; sisters-in-law Barbara Marsee and her husband, Bud, of Auburn, AL and Martha Tate and her husband, Ernie, of Peachtree City, GA; nephew, Dick Marsee, and nieces Melanie Conner, Stephanie Gunderson, DeeDee Watkins, and Polly Cason. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 8, 2009 in the sanctuary of Longs Chapel United Methodist Church with Reverend Chuck Wilson and Reverend Leyton Alan Mears officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:00 p.m. prior to service in the Venue at the church.
