William Henson

William Steven Henson, age 64, of 57 Yonder Mountain Road in the Henson Cove Community went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, December 20, 2006, surrounded by his family at home after fighting a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. He was a native of Haywood County and the son of the late U. G. and Eula Smith Henson. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Judy Sturgill. He retired from Blue Ridge Paper Products with 41 years service in 2003. He was a member of Burnett Siding Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and trustee. Steve was an avid outdoorsman and a farmer. In addition to his wife of 46 years, Joan Russell Henson, he is survived by a daughter, Darla Metcalf and her husband, Steve, of Waynesville; three sons, Reverend Doug Henson and his wife, Sharon, Dee Henson and his wife, Lisha, and Reverend Donnie Henson and his wife, Kelly, all of Canton; a sister, Barbara Conard of Canton; a brother, Sam Henson of Canton; and eight grandchildren, Adam, Noah, Jesse, and Caleb Henson, Leah Milan, Stephanie Morgan, and Sydney and Breanna Metcalf. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, December 22, 2006, at Burnett Siding Baptist Church with the Reverend James Stinnett, Reverend Donnie Henson, and Reverend Doug Henson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:30 until 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the church. At other times, the family will be at the residence.
