Wallace Britt

Canton – Reverend Claudie Wallace Britt, age 82, passed away on Thursday, February 19, 2015 at Mission Hospitals – Memorial Campus. A native of Hertford County, North Carolina, he had resided in Haywood County since 1979. He was the son of the late Luter John and Annie Rebecca Vann Britt and was also preceded in death by four brothers, William, Godwin, Guy, and Southgate Britt; and two sisters, Grace Britt and Nettie Mae Futrelle. Wallace lived his life as a committed, unwavering servant to his Lord Jesus Christ. He retired from the United States Navy with 20 years of service. After retirement from the military, he pursued his calling to enter the ministry. Wallace served as pastor of Bolens Creek Baptist Church in Burnsville, North Carolina for seven years and West Canton Baptist Church for 12 years. He lived life to its fullest – enjoying working crossword puzzles, reading, loved all sports and above all, cherished his role as husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Dorothy B. "Dot" Britt; two daughters, Terri A. Corzine and her husband, Wayne, of St. Cloud, Minnesota and Elaine Britt of Waggaman, Louisiana; two sons, Steve Britt and his wife, Connie of Young Harris, Georgia and Keith Britt and his wife, Joni, of Clyde; nine grandchildren, Lynn Forner, Vanessa Elder, Alisha Hogsed, Carrie Britt, Jada Henson, Danielle Smith, John Britt, Jacob Britt, and Dakota Corzine; and fifteen great-grandchildren, Chelsea, Amaya and LeLoni; Charley and Capri; Tyler, Haley, Alex and Savannah Ruth; Elizabeth Rose, Bonnie Jo; Bryson and Zoie; J. T. and Skylar Marie. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 22, 2015 at West Canton Baptist Church with the Reverend Jonathan Blaylock officiating. Burial will follow at Crawford/Ray Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 3:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
