Vena Rhodarmer

Waynesville, Vena Rhodarmer, age 80, of Hemphill Road, passed away quietly in her sleep, on her 60th wedding anniversary, Thursday, July 10, 2008 at the John F. Keever Solace Center. A native of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Rufus and Mila Messer Rathbone. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Brown A. Rhodarmer, who died in 1999 and three sisters, Velma Rathbone, Leona Evans, and Maggie Cagle. She was of Baptist faith and her passion in life was cooking for her family and friends. No one ever left her home hungry. Vena loved her nieces, nephew, and grand nieces and nephews very much. She is survived by one daughter, Judith Ann Pennyfeather and her husband, Jim, of Waynesville; special son-in-law, R.L. Franklin; daughter by love, Marlene Evans McCall; two sisters, Lillie Rathbone of the home and Frankie Phillips of Waynesville; her only grandson, Ernie Franklin and his wife, Patricia; a granddaughter by love, Teresa Worley Crowe; and special life long friends, Reba Rhodarmer and her daughter, Rhonda. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, July 14, 2008 in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend David Teague and Reverend Oliver Ray "Jakie" Cagle officiating. Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park. Serving as pallbearers will be Ethan Phillips, Adam Gibson, Marion "Rooster" Russell, Darrin Buchanan, Tommy and David Law. Honorary pallbearers will be Marla and Angel Davis. Music will be provided by Michael McCall. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the John F. Keever Solace Center, 68 Sweeten Creek Road, Asheville, NC 28803.
