Steve Eason

October 30, 1950 — April 29, 2014

Waynesville, Steven Gale Eason, age 63, passed away on Tuesday, April 29, 2014. A native of Kalamazoo, Michigan, he was the son of the late Arthur Gale Eason and Alma Lee Levins Eason. Steve graduated from Michigan State University with degrees in Advertising and Parks and Recreation. Steve came into the family business, Sunburst Trout Farms, in 1975 in Jackson County, relocating to Haywood County in 1985. During those 39 years, Steve managed the hatching facility, established an inventory tracking process, and created an H2O treatment system to manage impurities. Steve and his wife, Sally, along with their children and their spouses, ran the family business. He was fondly known as the "Trout Whisperer" by his children. For 15 years, Steve was immersed in AYSO Soccer, coaching and refereeing each year. He became head referee ultimately passing on his knowledge to over 50 trainees. He would no doubt say that never missing any of his granddaughter's soccer games was one of his favorite accomplishments. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Sally Jennings Eason; a daughter, Katie Eason Hughes and her husband, Clay Martin Hughes; two sons, Wesley Gale Eason and Benjamin Clark Eason, and his wife, Anna Marrow Eason and their children, Taylor, Mollie, and Emory, all of Waynesville; two sisters, Lynn Eason Mullin and her husband, Lawton Mullin of Naples, Florida and Brenda Eason Faunce and her husband, Eric Alan Faunce of Roswell, Georgia; and nieces and nephews, Jennifer Mullin Kasten and husband, Sanford Kasten, Colwell Mullin Ryan and husband, John Brace Ryan, all of Chicago, Andrew Eason Mullin of Delray Beach, Florida, Julia Christine Faunce and Evan Alden Faunce, also of Roswell, Georgia. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 3, 2014 at First United Methodist Church of Waynesville with Reverend Sanford L. Giles, Jr. and Reverend Dr. Robert M. Blackburn, Jr. officiating. The gathering of friends will follow at 353 Howell Street. In honor of Steve's beloved "Spartans", the family is requesting those attending to wear Michigan State green. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Haywood Community College Foundation Steve Eason Natural Resources Scholarship Fund. Please make checks payable to Haywood Community College Foundation and send to 185 Freedlander Drive, Clyde, NC 28721.
