Sonia Shimer

Waynesville-Sonia Laros Shimer passed away at the age of 80 from complications of a stroke in the presence of her loving family on Friday, June 24, 2005 in her home at the Greens in Waynesville. The daughter of industrialist, Russell K. Laros of Bethlehem, PA, Mrs. Shimer was the Executive Director of Wheels of Wellness, a non-profit medical transport service from 1970 to 1989. A mother of seven, Sonia is survived by six of her children plus 15 grandchildren ranging from 30 to 2 years of age. While funeral services will be private, a public celebration of Sonia's remarkable life will be held at the clubhouse of the Greens at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 25, 2005. In lieu of flowers, Sonia's family requests that contributions be made to Wheels of Wellness located at 928 Market Street in Philadelphia, PA 19107-4220.
