Russell Rogers

September 30, 1917 — September 15, 2014

Waynesville, Russell Rogers, age 96, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 15, 2014. A native of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Boone and Manese Medford Rogers and was also preceded in death by two sisters; Eva Tate and Adeline Bellish, and one brother, Davis Rogers. He was a US Army veteran of World War II. Russell loved working his farm and spending time with the love of his life, Lucy. He was the oldest living member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Lucy Wright Rogers; a sister, Betty Duckett, of Asheville; a brother, Edwin Rogers and his wife, Cenie, of Waynesville, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, September 19, 2014 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Curran R. Welch and Reverend Katherine Crain officiating. Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, 1949 Upper Crabtree Road, Clyde, NC 28721. An on-line memorial register is available at "Obituaries" at "www.wellsfuneralhome.com"
