Rubine Smathers

Waynesville, Rubine M. Smathers, age 72, of 249 Leatherwood Road, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 17, 2008 at her residence. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Boone and Bessie Allen Medford. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Smathers, who died in March 2004; her daughter, Donna Fish, who died in 2000; and a brother, Bill Medford. She was employed by Lea Industries and retired in 1980 and was a member of Clyde Church of God. She was dearly loved by those who knew her. She loved her girls and grandchildren very much and was so very grateful to them for taking care of her. And from her girls, "Mama, we love and miss you so very much." She is survived by three daughters, LouAnn Rice and her husband, Stephen, of Canton, Rebecca Stevens and her husband, Dennis, of Leicester, and Kim Janes and her husband, Malcom, of Waynesville; two sisters, Emogene Powell and Maxine Medford of Waynesville; one brother, Ray Medford, of Waynesville; eight grandchildren, Chris, Kevin, Stephanie, Daniel, Jennifer, Ashley, Jonathan, and Laura; and six great grandchildren, Kristen, Deeanna, Caleb, Amber, Clara, and Madison. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 21, 2008 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Michael Nations and Reverend Tim James officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 9:00 until 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday prior to services.
