Roger Ferguson

Clyde, Roger Dale Ferguson, age 66, of the Upper Crabtree Community, passed away on Sunday, December 22, 2013 at The Homestead. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Buford and Eva Best Ferguson. Roger was a dairy farmer for many years and later became a beef farmer. He was instrumental in organizing the Crabtree Iron-Duff Fire Department and a member of Crabtree Against Nuclear Dump. He was also an active member of the Back Country Horsemen of the Great Smoky Mountains, a former Member of the Pisgah Trail Blazers, and former Board of Directors Member of the Coble Milk Association. He was a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Yolanda Smith Ferguson; two sons, Travis Ferguson (Kimberly) of Raleigh and Dennis Ferguson (Laura), of the Crabtree Community; two sisters, Gail McElroy (Ray), of the Crabtree Community and Rhonda Mathis (Ronnie), of Waynesville; and four grandchildren, Eli, Natalie, Avery, and Landon. Funeral services will be held at Noon on Thursday, December 26, 2013 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend R. Curran Welch and Reverend Kitty Crain officiating. Burial will follow at Upper Crabtree Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Ethan McElroy, Ronald Mathis, Tim and Michael Lentz, Rodney, Dustin, and Scott Smith, Jeff, Gary, David, and Kenneth Wayne Best, Adrian Presnell, Raymond Munoz, Ryan Sutton, Derick McSwain, Brent and Chris Turner, and William James. Honorary pallbearers will be the Back Country Horsemen of the Great Smoky Mountains. A gathering of family and friends will be from 10:00 until 11:45 a.m. prior to services at the funeral home.
