Roger Alix

October 26, 1931 — November 7, 2004

Waynesville-Roger Alix, age 73, of Auburn Road, died Sunday, November 7, 2004 at Haywood Regional Medical Center. He was a native of Shelburne Farms, Vermont, and had resided in Miami, Florida before moving to Haywood County in 1976. He was the son of the late George Patrick and Bertha DuSablon Alix. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Raymond and Robert, and by two sisters, Eleanor and Claire. He was owner and manager of a service station and garage in Miami, Florida for 15 years. After moving to Haywood County, he worked as a custodian with the YMCA in Canton, and also as custodian for the First Baptist Church of Waynesville, retiring in 1996. He was a US Army veteran having served during the Korean Conflict. He attended St. Margaret's Catholic Church. He is survived by three daughters, Lynne Garcia of Weston, Florida, Sandra Campbell of Pompano Bay, Florida, and Laura Estevill of Miami, Florida; two sisters, Lucille Soutiere of Chelmsford, Massachusetts, and Anita Overlet of Lowell, Massachusetts; six grandchildren, Michael and Jean Paul Garcia, and Danielle and Stephen Campbell, and Michael E. and Matthew Estevill; and two great grandchildren, Alyssa and Logan. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 9, 2004 at the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Homes. Reverend John Daniels will officiate. Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery. Military graveside rites will be conducted by VFW Post 5202 and American Legion Post 47. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, prior to the service. Memorials may be made to St. Margaret's Catholic Church, P.O. Box 1359, Maggie Valley, NC 28751.
