Robert Weyman Brown, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 12, 2013. Born on June 13, 1922, in Cordelle, Georgia, he was the son of the late Jodie and Bessie Johnson Brown. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Eugene and Hoyt Brown and three sisters, Mina Bundrum, Doris McCoy, and Martha Knight. Robert served as a Marine Corporal during World War II. He had a special love and respect for his country. He was later employed by Champion Paper and Fiber Company for 39 years. He was a charter member and trustee of the Mountain View Church of God. When living in Cleveland, Tennessee, his second home, he attended the North Cleveland Church of God. His love for God was evidenced when at the young age of 17 he served as a Sunday School superintendent. He was a chaplain for VRACE Motorsports Ministries at race tracks and motorsports events across the country. Robert was a former Boy Scout leader, continuing his love for ministry and service to others. He delighted in telling stories of his many scouting experiences. He was also an avid gardener and enjoyed traveling. One of his greatest contributions in life was his dedication to family. He was a devoted and faithful husband. He was a wonderful provider and proud of the accomplishments of each family member. His family is forever grateful for the legacy that he lived before them as a husband, a father, and a grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Avadene, to whom he was married for 67 years, and two children, Eddie and wife, Teresa Brown, and Bobbie and husband, Roger Varner. He was blessed with five grandchildren: Jada and husband, J.P. Westfield; Ansley and husband, Martin Watley; Tiffany and husband, Richard Gillette; Alaric and wife, Renee Varner; and Bobby Alan and wife, Lindsay Varner. One of his greatest pleasures was being entertained by his thirteen great-grandchildren: Jalen and Jaleya Westfield; Raylee and Adisson Watley; Dakota, McKenzie, Alexander, and Gideon Gillette; Cassidy and Aubrey Varner; and Nehemyah, Eden, and Ava Varner. Robert's "homegoing" celebration will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, May 17, 2013, at the Mountain View Church of God in Canton, North Carolina, with military honors and a memorial Dove release.
