Robert Irwin

Iron Duff-Robert "Bob" Irwin, age 74, died October 3, 2007 at Haywood Regional Medical Center. A native of Dayton, Ohio, he resided in Haywood County since early 2004. He is the son of the late Ralph and Georgia Hendrickson. He was a retired Chief Warrant Officer having served over 20 years in both the US Air Force and the US Army. He was a veteran of the Korean War and a decorated Vietnam Veteran having served two tours of duty in South East Asia with the 25th Infantry, mechanized heavy artillery, during which he earned the Army Commendation Medal and two Bronze Stars. After retiring in 1972, Mr. Irwin was employed by Orange County, Florida as supervisor in the HVAC/Mechanical Department, where he worked until his retirement in 1990. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Joan "Jo" Harstel Irwin; one daughter, Joann D'Eramo and her husband, Dennis, of Fines Creek; one son, Michael Irwin, and his wife, Nancy Clark, of Winter Park, Florida; two sisters, Judy Schmidt and her husband, Jerry, of Springfield, Ohio and Jo Ellen O'Neal of Fairborn, Ohio; two grandchildren, David D'Eramo of Longwood, Florida and Deanna Magee and her husband, Matt, and great-grandson, Matty Magee, of Sanford, Florida. A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 6, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at the Seventh Day Adventist Church of Waynesville, Pastor Ed Couser officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Seventh Day Adventist Church of Waynesville, Community Services, 119 Hampshire Drive, Waynesville, NC 28785.
