Richard Griffin

Waynesville-Richard Lee Griffin, age 88, died Saturday, March 24, 2007 at his residence. A native of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Robert and Zennie Nelson Griffin. He was also preceded in death by three sisters, Catherine Pressley, Lillie Griffin and Alice Lance and a grandson, David Griffin. He was a farmer and worked at Canton Hardwood as a stacker retiring in 1975. He was of the Baptist faith. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Celia; two daughters, Beatrice Hicks and her husband, Walter of Marion and Florence Gibson and her husband, Donald of Canton; two sons, Tommy Griffin and his wife, Judy of Canton and Robert Griffin and his wife, Marian of Waynesville; twelve grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 27, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend G.W. Jameson officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Clyde. The family will receive friends Monday from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Serving as pallbearers will be Kenneth, Shane, Robbie and Junior Griffin, Jimmy Gibson and Gary Lanning. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made directly to the family
