Ray Farmer

May 17, 1932 — April 1, 2013

William Ray Farmer, age 80, of the Cruso community, passed away on Monday, April 1, 2013 at his residence. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, he was a son of the late Marion Samuel and Effie Mae Frizzell Farmer. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Lucille and Naomi. Ray retired from Champion International and was a member of Meadow Grove Baptist Church. He was a United States Army veteran of the Korean conflict. Ray was a very special man, loved by all who knew him. He had a very dedicated work ethic, always staying busy working with his son and sons-in-laws and enjoyed working in his vegetable and flower gardens. Ray was dedicated to his family and his Christian faith. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Pauline Frazier Farmer; three daughters, Ann McCarter and her husband, Randy, of Canton, Peggy Sheppard and her husband, Wesley, of Magalia, California, and Donna Farmer and her fiancé, Keith Layne, of Canton; one son, Jeff Farmer and his wife, Beverly, of Canton; three sisters, Opal Stockton of Canton, Marie Heatherly of Candler, and Christine Littrell and her husband, Bob, of Canton; one brother, Kenneth Farmer of Canton; six grandchildren, Cody Parton Nathan Yarbrough (Desiree), Amber Turner (Jason), all of Canton, Kayla Rae Farmer who was special to him, Amy and Ashley Sheppard of California; three great-grandchildren, Hayden Elizabeth Yarbrough of Canton, Alexis and Ethan Sheppard of California; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, April 5, 2013 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Mark Edwards officiating. Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to MedWest Haywood Hospice, 560 Leroy George Drive, Clyde, NC 28721.
