RALPH SWANGER

Waynesville-Ralph Swanger, age 70, of 55 Swanger Lane, died Sunday, October 27, 2002 at Chestnut Park Retirement Center.

A native of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Frank and Myra Dillard Swanger. He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Henry, Sidney, and Jack Swanger; a sister, Susan Smith; and a grandson, Joseph Swanger. He was a US Army veteran. He was a retired employee of Lea Industries and owned and operated the Red Barn convenience store.

He is survived by his wife, Clara Ross Swanger; a son, Michael Swanger and his wife, Martha, of Waynesville; three sisters, Wilma Robbins, of Waynesville, Betty Gabruk, of Clyde, and Francis Tiehno, of Charlotte, NC; two brothers, James Swanger of Waynesville and David Lee Swanger of Charlotte; one grandson, Matthew Swanger; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 29, 2002 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Johnny Swanger officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. prior to the service, and at other times, the family will be at the residence. Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Disease Association, WNC Chapter, 3 Louisiana Avenue, Asheville, NC 28806.
