Myrtle Rathbone

June 8, 1924 — February 23, 2005

Waynesville-Myrtle Rathbone, age 80, of 49 Valleybrook Lane, died Wednesday, February 23, 2005 at her residence. A native of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late John and Minnie Rector Beasley. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Harley Rathbone, who died in 1992; a son, James Robert Rathbone, who died in 1966; a sister, Nora Beasley Rathbone; four brothers, Carl, Doug, Lee, Graham Beasley and great granddaughter Harlei Vianna Ferguson. She enjoyed working crossword puzzles and loved spending time with her grandchildren. She was of Baptist faith. She is survived by five daughters, Marie Henry, Shirley Fortner, Joan Green, and her husband, Norman, Janet Messer and her husband, Richard, Margaret Wyatt, and her husband, Richard, all of Waynesville; a son, Jerry Rathbone, of Waynesville; a brother, Coleman Beasley, of Clyde; 14 grandchildren including Kristy Ferguson; 24 great grandchildren; and four great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 27, 2003 in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Homes & Cremation Services with Reverend Alan Davis and Reverend Jason Ledford. Burial will follow at Fines Creek Memorial Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home. Serving as pallbearers will be Lee and Anthony Evans, Charles Messer, David and Tim Chambers, Doyle Green, and Phillip Edwards. Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society, 90 Stiles Road, Canton, NC 28716.
