Mary Williams

October 13, 1949 — November 9, 2006

Waynesville-Mary Katherine "Kathy" Williams, age 57, of 74 Ben Matt Rose Drive, went to be home with the Lord, Thursday, November 9, 2006 at her home, surrounded by family and friends. A native and life long resident of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin and Mary Palmer Price. In 1967, she was a member of the first graduating class of Tuscola. She received her Bachelor's Degree in Teaching from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and her Masters Degree from Western Carolina University. She was employed by the Haywood County School System and taught at Bethel Elementary School for 32 years, retiring in 2003. She was a member of White Oak Baptist Church where she served as the Adult Ladies' Sunday School teacher and also played the piano. Kathy's "Blue Crew" was very involved with the "Relay for Life Organization" and also enjoyed sewing, painting, and music. She also had a special love for her two dachshunds. Kathy was very well loved by many friends that she made throughout her lifetime. Her greatest gift was her salvation and trust in the Lord which helped her endure a 17-year battle with breast cancer. She is survived by her husband of 37 years, Bill Williams; one daughter, Rosemary Rogers and her husband, Jeremy, of Waynesville; two sons, Ben Williams, and Matthew Williams and his wife, Ami, both of Waynesville, a close cousin, Josie Bewsey and her family, of Sylva; and her two precious dogs, Scooter and Scamper. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 12, 2006 in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Gary Putnam officiating. Burial will follow at White Oak Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 9:00 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home. Serving as pallbearers will be Roy Wijewickrama, Caleb Rogers, Brad Williams, Jeff Bewsey, Alvis Allen, and Bill Dail. Honorary pallbearers will be the retired and current teachers of Bethel Elementary School. Kathy would have wanted to thank her oncologist, Dr. James Puckett and his staff, for all the years they provided medical care and attention. Kathy loved many and appreciated everything that was done for her and her family. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 120 Executive Park, Building, Asheville, NC 28801 in memory of Kathy Williams.
