Marion Norman

August 22, 1922 — July 14, 2012

Waynesville, Marion Edgar "Chub" Norman, age 89, passed away on Saturday, July 14, 2012 at Life Care Center of Hendersonville after an extended illness. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, he was the son of the late William T. and Margaret Jane McNabb Norman. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a son, Jerry Wayne Norman; three brothers, Nathan, Frank and Thomas Norman; and two sisters, Georgia Shular and Louise Belt. He was a US Army veteran of World War II and former member of the Elks Lodge, Moose Lodge, and the American Legion. Norman was a self-employed electrical contractor and realtor in Waynesville and was a member of Grandview Baptist Church and attended First Baptist Church of Waynesville. He is survived by a son, Douglas Stuart Norman and his wife, Faye, of Crestview, Florida; a daughter-in-law, Betty Cooper Norman, of Waynesville; a sister, Viola Forga of Waynesville; grandchildren, Jerry Wayne Norman, Jr. and his wife, Christy, of Waynesville, Alisha Cathey and her husband, John, of Waynesville, Cheri Riddle and her husband, Joshua, of Swannanoa, and Pamela Burman and her husband, Aaron, of Phoenix, Arizona; five great-grandchildren, Addison and Kenley Norman, Conner Cathey, and Brittany and Paul Douglas Wheelon; former wife, Judy Norman; and stepdaughters, Vicky Faye Thornton, Rosin Mary Graff, and Candy Ann Smith. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 17, 2012 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Dr. Robert Prince officiating. Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 90 Stiles Road, Canton, NC 28716.
