Marie Smith

Candler-Marie Pearson Smith, age 92, formerly of Highway 19/23, died Saturday, September 14, 2002 at Pardee Hospital in Hendersonville.

She was a native of Haywood County and had resided in Buncombe County most of her life. She was the daughter of the late L. C. and Florence Ledford Justice. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Bura Henderson Pearson and by her second husband, Vincent Smith. Also preceding her in death was a son, Morris Dale Pearson, a granddaughter, Vicky Lynn Pearson, a great granddaughter, Marissa Brook Weaver and a sister, Velda Rhan. She was a member of New Hope Baptist Church.

She is survived by two daughters, Brenda Raines, of Pickens, SC and Carlyn Calloway, of Canton; four sons, Carroll Pearson, of Bluffton, SC, Lewis Pearson and Dean Pearson, both of Candler and Bob Pearson, of Canton; two sisters, Mora Jane McCracken, of Waynesville and Wilma Ruth Strickland, of Candler; one brother, Vaughn Henry Justice, of Mars Hill; 14 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 17, 2002 at the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home. The Reverend R. H. ''Bud'' Lance and Reverend Ronald Towe will officiate. Burial will be at Upper Crabtree Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, prior to the service, at the funeral home.

The grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
