Waynesville, Marie Burris, age 69, of Hendrix Street, passed away on Tuesday, November 04, 2014 at The Homestead. A native of Jackson County, she was the daughter of the late N. L. Ensley and Beatrice Ashe and was also preceded in death by her husband, Carroll L. Burris, who died in 2013. Marie was a talented artist. She enjoyed art, crafts, cooking and fishing and was of the Baptist faith. Marie is survived by a son, Steve Burris and his wife, Tonya, of Waynesville; sister, Gay Wilkes and her husband, Michael, of Cullowhee; brother, Darrell Ensley, of Sylva; and two grandchildren, Julie and Stephanie Burris. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 6, 2014 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Mark Tice and Reverend Mark Golden officiating. Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park. Serving as pallbearers will be Harold Chambers, Marty Wilkes, Joseph Snyder, Joshua Freeman, Dale and Mark Burris. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2:00 p.m. prior to services at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Haywood County Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 931, Waynesville, NC 28786.
