Lloyd Putnam

Waynesville, Lloyd Putnam, age 91, of Big Cove Road, passed away on Wednesday, October 31, 2012 at The Homestead. A native of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Mird and Maggie Green Putnam and as a US Army veteran of World War II. Lloyd received the American Theater Service Medal, FAME Service Medal, and three Bronze Stars for his dedicated service for his country. He was owner of the Balsam Road Men's Shop and also worked at the Waynesville Bait Shop. Lloyd loved the beauty of the mountains, flowers, and bird watching. He also enjoyed crossword puzzles and solitaire. He is survived by five nieces, Nancy Messer, Patricia Matthews, both of Waynesville, Abby Slaughter and husband, Dale, of Swannanoa, Doris Hendricks and husband, Richard, of Canton, and Betty Jeanne Reece of Waynesville; four nephews, Charles Putnam and wife, Martha, of Waynesville, Robert Putnam and wife, Darlene of Leicester, Bobby Ballard and wife, Anita, of Swannanoa, and Leonard Ballard and wife, Donna, of Silverdale, Washington; and a sister-in-law, Mildred Putnam, of Waynesville. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 3, 2012 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Darrell Webb officiating. Burial will follow at Buchanan Cemetery with military graveside rites. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 3:00 p.m. prior to services at the funeral home. A special "thank you" to Lloyd's niece, Betty Jeanne Reece for her dedicated care and also to Larry Wyatt, whom Lloyd loved like a son for his friendship and care.
