Joseph Beckner

Maggie Valley-Joseph Beckner, 79, of Bradenton, Fl., and Maggie Valley, NC, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, December 28, 2005 surrounded by his loving family in Heritage Park Rehabilitation Center in Bradenton, Fl. Joseph Beckner was born April 19, 1926 in Barren County, KY. One of eight children, he grew up in Norwood, OH. On his 18th birthday, he became the fifth brother to serve his country during WWII by joining the United States Marines. Upon leaving the Marines, he joined the Army Reserves. He began his 42-year career with Western and Southern Life Insurance in Cincinnati, OH and was transferred to Orlando, Fl. in 1969. He remained in Florida as the west coast regional manager until he retired in 1988. He was a devoted husband and father. His smile brightened everyone's lives. His wit kept us smiling until the very end. His memory will live in our hearts forever. He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife of 54 years the one true love of his life, Wanda Lee; daughters Debra Beckner of Bradenton, FL, Renea Keough of Hot Springs, MT., and Tanya Garced of Altamonta Springs, Fl., Trisha Wumkes of Palm Harbor, FL.; brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Harriet Beckner, sister and brother-in-law Evelyn and Carl Harris, grandchildren, Sondra Mullenax, Blaize Butler, Kayla Garced, and King Austin Butler, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Charles and Bonnie Schulze, and a host of other sorrowing relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 3, 2006 in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Randy Bolden officiating. Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.
