Joe Smith, age 60, formerly of Waynesville, died unexpectedly Monday, August 08, 2005 at Bay Shores Hospital in Pasadena, Texas. He was a native of Haywood County and had resided in Waynesville for 40 years. He was the son of the late Gary and Pearl Moore Smith. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Jack Smith and two sisters Mary Grasty and Etta Sharp. He was a United States Army veteran serving in Vietnam twice for a total of 12 years of service. He is survived by two sisters, Ruby Wilson and her husband, Rex of Candler and Barbara Snyder and her husband, John of Canton; a brother, Kenneth Smith and his wife, Betty of Waynesville and several nieces and nephews that he loved very much. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, August 12, 2005 at the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Phillip Hurst officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. At other times, the family will be at the residence of Kenneth Smith, 457 Riverbend Road, Waynesville, NC.
