James Davis

Waynesville, James Wiley "Jim" Davis, age 53, passed away on Monday, June 28, 2010 at Hughes Chatham Hospital in Elkin, NC. A native of Haywood County, he was a former resident of Christiansburg, Virginia and had lived in Sparta, NC for the past five years. He was the son of James Edward "Jim" and Sarah Louise Swayngim Davis. A 1974 graduate of Tuscola High School, Jim was an expert carpenter. He loved music, horseback riding, and NASCAR. He was a member of Maple Grove United Methodist Church. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his companion, Jennie Lynn Smith; one son, Vinson Davis, of Raleigh; two daughters, Jennifer Durrett and her husband, Mark, of Waynesville and Jessalyn Smith of Sparta; one stepdaughter, Caiti Smith of Sparta; one sister, Cindy Davis Mumma and her husband, Randy, of Waynesville; a brother, Ed Davis and his wife, Julie, of Waynesville; a niece, Laurie Munoz and her husband, José of Phoenix, Arizona; and one nephew, Jim Davis and his wife, Autumn, of Richmond, Virginia. Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 1, 2010 at Maple Grove United Methodist Church with Reverend Jim Mackey and Reverend Tom Hunter officiating and eulogy presented by Mike Williamson. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the church fellowship hall. Memorials may be made to Maple Grove United Methodist Church, 79 Maple Grove Church Road, Waynesville, NC 28786.
