James Wilson

February 12, 1950 — April 20, 2005

James Carroll "Jim" Wilson, Jr., age 55, of 49 Morningside Drive died peacefully surrounded by his family Wednesday, April 20, 2005 at Memorial Mission Hospital. He was a native of the Dutch Cove Community of Haywood County and had lived in Asheville for the past 27 years. He was the son of James Carroll and Carrie Mae Trantham Wilson of Waynesville. He graduated from Pisgah High School where he played football and later attended N. C. State University. He was employed by General Electric Medical Systems as a field support engineer retiring in 2001 with 25 years of service. He was a United States Navy veteran serving six years during the Vietnam era and was a former member of Morning Star United Methodist Church. Jim was very proud of his Cherokee heritage and loved the WNC mountains. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying houseboating. Jim also enjoyed music, old movies, animals; in particular his German Shepherd, "Bear"; John Deere tractors and family antiques. Jim was known for his wonderful sense of humor and took great delight in playing tricks and surprising his family and friends. Jim was beloved by his family and friends and will be greatly missed. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife of 32 years, Jean Faulkner Wilson; a daughter, Amy W. Lytle and her husband, Dwayne of Spartanburg, SC; a son, James Carroll "Willie" Wilson, III and his fiancé, Susan Berry of Raleigh; a sister, Barbara Wilson of Waynesville and two grandchildren, Christian and Kaiya Lytle. Memorial services will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 23, 2005 at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Homes & Cremation Services with the Reverend Doug Love and Reverend Carl Chastain officiating. Military rites will be conducted by VFW Post 5202 and American Legion Post 47. The family will receive friends from 12:30 - 1:45 p.m. prior to the services at the funeral home. At other times the family will be at the residence of his parents at 233 4th Street, Waynesville. At Jim's request memorials may be made in lieu of flowers to the Arbor Day Foundation, 100 Arbor Avenue, Nebraska City, NE 68410 or simply plant a hardwood seedling in his memory.
