Jack Arrington

October 12, 1916 — October 8, 2009

Waynesville, Jack Woodrow Arrington, age 92, of Arrington Acres, died on Thursday, October 8, 2009 at Carepartners Hospice and Palliative Care in Asheville. A native of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Austin F. and Florence Mehaffey Arrington and was also preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Haney Arrington. He was a US Army Veteran of WWII and a member of the VFW, American Legion, and Waynesville Elks Lodge. He worked for 40 years as a ticket agent for Southern Railway before his retirement and was a member of Pleasant Balsam Baptist Church. Jack enjoyed life to its fullest. He and his wife enjoyed square dancing, and he enjoyed taking care of his chickens. He is survived by two nieces, Judy Rickman and her husband, Ronnie, of Clyde and Debbie Jordan and her husband, John, of Waynesville. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 12, 2009 at Plott Cemetery in the Saunook Community with Reverend Bobby Downs officiating. Military graveside rites will be conducted by VFW Post 5202 and the American Legion Post 47.
